What do you remember about being a kid?
1. What did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be a veterinarian or to be a potter. Since I am allergic to most living things, don't see the vet thing happening anytime soon.
2. How did you help out around the house?
My mom would say I disappeared every time the dish water was turned on (but it made me need to pee!), but I did dishes, vacuumed, ironed, help in various other tortuous chores. My mom is an immaculate housekeeper. I am ....not. It's all her fault!
3. What were you most afraid of?
I was fearless until I started needing glasses. Somehow, that changed me, and I quit hanging out at the auction barn, upside down from trees, and with the "wrong sort of people." I was afraid of what I couldn't see. Now, I am phobic about sharks and alligators, both of which stalk me in Western NC.
4. Who was your first crush?
I was in the 4th grade and he was in a different class. I think his name was Michael. He was blond, quiet, and so cute. Never spoke to me. I would have peed myself. I worshiped from afar.
5. What childhood story do family and friends still tease you about?
When my mom went to work at Baxters when I was about 12, I cooked dinner for the family. She would write out a recipe or directions and I followed them religiously. So, when the mashed taters directions said "1 cup salt", I didn't question it. So it IS all her fault. She doesn't tease me so much, but my Dad and my brothers did, every chance they got.
6. Which family vacation was your favorite?
I wouldn't say it was my favorite, but it had the most impact on me and I remember it vividly, like it was yesterday. When we lived in Germany, my parents took me to the Auschwitz Concentration Camp. It has influenced my beliefs in humanity for my whole life.
7. What did you do in the summer time?
We had one channel that came in when it wanted to. I read a lot, played outside, made stuff. Oh, the dreaded piano lessons!
8. What did your childhood bedroom look like?
Well, I had one at every Air Force Base we were stationed at, two in Hoppy Tom. I guess the one I remember best was the old house we lived in while my Dad built ours in Hoppy Tom. Mom let me paint stuff all over the walls. Very 70's Show! My cousins were so jealous!
9. As a child, what was your greatest talent?
I think it is the same now as it was then. My greatest talent appears to be putting my foot in my mouth and making my mother scream at me!
10. What was the nicest thing your parents ever did for you?
My Mom gave Eric Waters my address and phone number at college when he called. I always swore I'd never date a red-headed man. But momma knows best.
